Barclays Jersey Boat Show: ‘Back on Board’ this weekend!

With just days to go, final preparations are well underway for the 2022 Barclays Jersey Boat Show.

Taking place in and around St Helier Marina and Weighbridge Place between the afternoon of Friday 10 and Sunday 12 June, the Show once again promises a wealth of great activities to entertain the crowds and after an absence of 3-years organisers can’t wait to be ‘back on board’.

The pontoons in St Helier Marina will be awash with a high number of vessels on display, all of which will be open to the public, with marine traders representing some of the world’s leading brands, including Sunseeker, Fairline, Princess, Dufour and Kawasaki. The pontoons will be open between 1pm to 7pm on Friday, 10am to 5pm on Saturday and 10am to 4pm on Sunday.

Geomarine’s ‘Outdoor & Active Zone’ on the Albert Pier will play host to a programme of activities both on and off the water, as well as a dedicated area for local leisure operators offering products and services, including kayaking, rowing and stand-up paddle boarding. Confirmed activities on the water include GB SUP and Jersey Rowing Club races, e-foil demonstrations, as well as a daily skydive performance into St Helier Harbour by Skydive Jersey. There will also be daily boat skills sessions and RIB blasts, provided by Le Mourier. The full list of activities, including timings, which will be subject to suitable weather and sea conditions, can be viewed on our website.

Young children will also be catered for with the popular Kids Zone (extra charges applicable), set up in the area by the Steam Clock.

Local talent will once again be showcased on the Solent Stevedores Main Stage in Weighbridge Place. The varied programme includes appearances from Take This (Saturday 11 June), The Jersey Bounce (Sunday 12 June) and Inside Job (Sunday 11 June). Other appearances during the weekend will include Michael Hutchings, The L is M Band, Les Quennevais Steel Band, The Ad LiB Band, Hot Bananas and The Jersey Boys. In addition, The Band of the Island of Jersey will give a special public performance and march on Friday evening at approximately 7:15pm in Weighbridge Place. A full list of performances and times can be viewed online.

A new addition to the 2022 show is the “In Conversation With…” seminars, which will be taking place in the Hospitality Marquee on Friday afternoon and throughout Sunday. Hosted by former Sky TV journalist, Lucy Cotter, she’ll be chatting with a variety of guests, including the first female Rear Admiral of the Royal Navy (and Jersey girl!) Jude Terry OBE, sustainability with Ports of Jersey and even cocktail and mocktail demonstrations.

The Royal Navy Outreach team will be engaging with the local community in Weighbridge Place with its VR (virtual reality) headsets. There will also be interactive and engaging table-top STEM activities for youngsters, which will include physics, engineering, and electronics. The Jersey Field Squadron will also be showcasing its locally based assets.

Two local charities, Jersey Hospice Care and Jersey Samaritans have been selected by title sponsors Barclays, as the beneficiary charities from this year’s show and each will receive an equal split of donations raised by the bank’s fund-raising activities at the show.

As the local community is very much part of the annual show, numerous charities and welfare associations will be taking part this year. These also include representatives from some of the Island’s Emergency Services, including Jersey Airport Rescue & Fire Fighting, Jersey Coastguard, Jersey Fire & Rescue Services, and the RNLI Lifeguards who will all be offering practical advice and tips.

Whether you are looking for the latest in maritime and lifestyle related gadgets and gizmos, advice and assistance in taking to the water, picking up a Genuine Jersey product from one of our local artisans, trying your hand at on water activities or simply looking for a quirky gift, then you’ll find it all at the Show with over 80 exhibitors showcasing their products and services. And your taste buds will be in for a treat with an abundance of catering and refreshment concessions throughout the arena and Weighbridge Place.

On behalf of the show’s organisers, Ports of Jersey, Harbourmaster Captain Bill Sadler, says, “The Barclays Jersey Boat Show continues to go from strength to strength, demonstrated by the high level of interest and participation not only from our many maritime partners but from across many industries, including retail, hospitality, catering and finance. Coupled with a wonderful programme of activities both on and off the water, as well as a showcase for local music talent, the show clearly reflects a real community effort and has a great buzz about it. For the first time we are open until 8pm on Friday. It’s a great opportunity for people to enjoy a long lunch break, finish work early or pop along after work. Whether you’re an experienced mariner or not, the Show promises something for everyone, whatever the weather, so we’re excited to be welcoming everyone back on board again.”

Paul Savery, Managing Director and Head of Crown Dependencies for title sponsors, Barclays, adds, “We are proud to have supported the Barclays Jersey Boat Show for over a decade and, after a two-year gap, are looking forward to the show returning. It not only promotes the Island’s marine leisure industry, but it provides a boost to the local businesses represented and, of course, is great for the community. We look forward to welcoming islanders and visitors alike, to enjoy the many activities planned and, of course, help us raise much needed funds for two deserving local charities; Jersey Hospice Care and Jersey Samaritans.”

The 2022 Barclays Jersey Boat Show remains the largest free-entry event in the Channel Islands, typically attracting over 30,000 people over the three days. Opening times are:

· 1pm and 8pm on Friday 10 June

· 10am and 6pm on Saturday 11 June
